App Review: Invertebrate Pocket Reference

A must have for the Aquarist or Marine Animal Lover!

Invertebrate Pocket Reference is a guide for marine aquarists.  It will help you determine if the animal you want to purchase or collect is suitable for your reef or saltwater tank.

You will learn the Latin name of the animal, its size, diet, behavior, lighting requirements, whether it is reef friendly, venomous and more.

Invertebrate Pocket Reference is a very well put together guide that can help you insure that your salt water aquarium inhabitants are living in an ideal environment.  It provides very detailed information from what type of surroundings are best all the way to how you should handle them.

The guide also has very clear images of each invertebrate for those of us that still don’t know what is in our tank.

I also found this app very educational, there was so much information that I gained about what can be found out there and how it lives.  I mean, who knew that the Cleaner Shrimp is like a car wash for the fish.

Navigation through this app is very simple, first you are going to chose which species you are looking for (i.e. crabs, worms, snails, sea urchins, etc…), then you locate the name of the invertebrate and just like magic; all the information that you will need to help you make sure that you invertebrate won’t kill or harm anything in your aquarium.

The Developer is working on future updates to this app and also has future apps in the works: Fish Reference and Coral Reference.

Price: $1.99

The Good

  • Very informative
  • Great Visuals
  • Easy Navigation
  • Cheaper and easier than buying a book with similar info.

The Not So Good

  • I would like to see the ability to swipe to the next invertebrate within each species, instead having to go back to the list.
